Apo Reef Natural Park

Apo Reef Natural Park and other dive sites in Sablayan is currently getting better attention from concerned agencies of our government. The ban on fishing within Apo Reef has incidentally diminshed, some fishermen source of livelihood. Fortunately, eco-tourism could help compensate and hopefully sustain a moreecologically responsible system of use for this natural parks. The Southern Tagalog Tourism Council will hold a conference here in Sablayan to help promote Occ. Mindoro as a new adventure destination. Prior to that, October being Tamaraw Conservation Month would also be an opportune time to sample the biodiversity of Mt. Iglit-Baco Nature Park. The weather during this month tends to be calmer.

During this "ber" months Bird Watching within Sablayan Penal Colony where Mt. Siburan (primary forest) and Lake Libao has been getting good reviews from both international and local asian enthuse. The interaction between tourist and local people is like a shot in the arm. It surely cures a lot of problems of conservation.

Seminars conducted by Haribon Foundation

The Haribon Foundation is currently conducting a series of seminars for local coordinators to ensure continuous preservation and development of our forests and wildlife. Please visit www.haribon.org.ph for more information on the foundation.

The Tamaraw of Mindoro

Due to its remoteness, the Mt. Iglit Tamaraw reservation is currently not as easily visited by tourist. Despite the importance of the Tamaraw being nearly extinct, only a few have endured the muscle pain and being unconnected to the outside world of mountain climbing for four days.

Although it may take a day and a half to get to the view site (Magawang), the trek is very interesting. A certified tourist guide from Sablayan and Mangyans (local tribes people) act as porters. The wages these Mangyans receive would help them in their livelihood and encourage them to preserve the forest they dwell upon.

The feeling of viewing the Tamaraw as they roam freely among our other animals such as deer and wild boars is most rewarding. We encourage you to register upon arrival in Sablyan for us to be able to schedule the trip as we would like to limit the number of guests at any one time.
